AWESOME DAY

It’s winter in Australia! After eating an early morning breakfast, which included toast with vegemite, we left the hotel to meet the other half of our delegation at the airport. The delegates from Texas are very nice kids. I feel confident that the two groups will blend well together. We then drove through the rain and mist to Mt. Victoria in the beautiful Blue Mountains about 2 hours west of Sydney. After a period of team building activities and positive thinking exercises, we ate Aussie meat pie for lunch.  Everyone then suited up in helmets and harnesses and trudged a mile through forests of snowy gum trees to a rock face to repel down a cliff – 200 feet!  There were a few jitters, anxious looks, and shaky knees (mine included), but everyone completed the task!! And what an incredible experience it was!  Just imagine being suspended in midair 150 feet off the ground gazing upon the gorgeous Australian landscape below. It rained off and on throughout the day – and it was cold. Good thing everyone brought warm clothes.  It was cold and dark when we got back to the compound at 5:00 for dinner. The mob of kangaroos grazing in the grass didn’t seem to mind. (sorry for the quality of photo – too dark and rainy).
By the end of the day, the delegates were better acquainted with each other, have different mind sets, lots of self-confidence, and a new “I can” attitude to life.  We just finished bed checks and it was unanimous – today was an AWESOME day!
I'm having a very difficult time trying to upload the photos. Sorry about that. I only have internet service for an hour. I will keep working on this problem, but in the meantime I will post narratives.
